Busy monkeys in JSC

During swimming students have been practicing what to do in emergency situations around water- this has included what to call out, how to rescue someone and how to do life saving backstroke.

We have been looking at clocks and the time. There are 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour and 60 seconds in an hour.
We have also learnt when the big hand is on the 12 it is O'clock, when it is on the 6 it is half past, when it is on the 3 it is quarter past and when it is on the 9 it is quarter to.

Welcome to Term 3!

I trust that everyone had a lovely 2 week break, and kept healthy and safe.
We welcomed a new student to our class in the last week of term 2- Callon- all the way from the UK.
Today JSC went to their first lesson of swimming, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and no one lost anything! Each student has been put carefully placed into a group- Dolphins, Seals, Penguins or Turtles.
Our Inquiry focus 'May the force be with you' jumped into action at our CSIRO excursion and at the moment the children are really enjoying learning about simple machines and how they work. Next week we begin rotations where they will further explore; wheels and axles, pulleys and levers, magnets, electricity and gravity.

Inquiry Presentations!!

JSC were overwhelmed by parents and grandparents on Thursday afternoon, while the children shared their inquiry questions and answers. They all did a fabulous job and should be very proud of their efforts.

JSC are also very much so looking forward to their first excursion for the year, this coming Friday they are going to the CSIRO.

How long is that?

Students have been madly measuring anything and everything that they could find in the classroom.
We learnt it is best to line up the objects in a straight line, just touching to measure accurately.

JSC students are also very much looking forward to Open Day next Wednesday the 26th. We are hoping to see lots of people joining us in the classroom on this day! :)

5 Star Handwriting

We always try our best to make sure we are writing on the dotted thirds correctly. We make sure we are using a three finger pencil grip, sitting up tall in our tucked in chair and have spaces between our words.

Pattern crazy!

Today was our second lesson on pattern. We know that a pattern is something that repeats. It can be colours, pictures, shapes, words and lots more things.

Place value

We have been practicing reading, interpreting and ordering numbers. Today one group made 3 digit numbers with MAB on a baseboard. Then we ordered the numbers from smallest to largest.

Cooking Anzac biscuits

We loved making ANZAC biscuits! Some of them got burnt on the bottom, luckily Mrs V class made some extras for us. They were so delicious! I really enjoyed cooking.

Welcome back- Term 2

Welcome to term 2. I hope the children had a great holiday break and are rested and ready to start this term's work. There has been a change to our timetable Music and Italian are on a Tuesday afternoon, and on Friday at 2:30 the children will have Phys Ed with Mr Kendall.

Spelling homework has begun. The children are encouraged to practise these words at home. The words will incorporate both THRASS and M100 words, these words will be tested every Friday. The children will bring home their spelling book on a Monday and return the book on Friday.

We have recently finished a unit of work in Numeracy on Time focusing on O'clock and half past. The children really enjoyed making their own analogue clock. We will continue to revisit this during the year.

Looking forward to seeing you all tommorow night at parent fest.

Wow! What a busy term!

We have had a jam packed term here are some photos to highlight the fun learning we have had in JSC.
We have talked about the days of the week, months of the year and calendar. We made a season/ birthday wheel.

Amber Blackwood (Emily and Madelines Mum) sang some Easter songs and played some games with us. She had us all bouncing around like bunnies and making big and small shapes to match the pitch of a song.

We have learnt alot about different cultures with guest speakers from different backgrounds.
