JSC won the Gnome Award this week, YES! We have launched our first inquiry for the year "I am, You are, We are Australian" and we have been lucky enough to have some parents who volunteered to talk about their cultural background.
Foundations concluded this week, and in JSC we focused on making our work nice and neat. In numeracy we started a unit on Place Value. I wonder if you can explain what a 'kip' is to your parents? We discussed strategies to use to reject bullying, had lots of fun acting out different scenarios and made bully free badges. We have also made a class pledge, promising what we will do all year in JSC, everyone has signed their name so check it out.
Foundations continue this week and we have been talking about what makes a 5 Star Work and what makes a 5 Star Teacher. We also decided on our class mascot and motto.
Today we talked about what would make a 5 star learner. Everyone in JSC wrote 2 things that they thought makes a 5 star learner. We graphed our results to see what were the most important elements and made a JSC 5 star learner chart to display in the room.
We also discussed what makes a healthy lunch and why it is important to eat healthy, especially at school.
What a lovely start to our year together. We have been working on setting up the foundations and getting to know one another. The children have been discussing a different value each day, writing postcards, designing T-shirts that describe ourselves and have played on the junior school playground.
